Formal Recruitment '99
Since 1904, Alpha Gamma Delta has been successfully recruiting new members to her Sisterhood in a spirit of sharing, womanhood and personal discovery. In this final Recruitment season of the 20th Century, Alpha Gams prepare to welcome women who will truly represent the future of our fine organization. These new leaders will be the foundation of AGD in the coming millenium. This issue of NewsBytes focuses on Formal Recruitment.

Recruitment Tips

Since Formal Recruitment is a busy time and we must juggle our academics with Fraternity commitments and even our part-time jobs, we rely on our Alumnae Sisters for support and assistance during the planning and hosting of our Recruitment parties. Here are some additional tips to keep spirits high and tension low during Recruitment Week!

  • Bring healthy snacks to munch on during breaks.
  • Get a good night's sleep throughout Formal Recruitment.
  • Focus during practices and try to keep socializing for breaktime.
  • Be extra patient with your Sisters. They have the same stresses you do.
  • Appreciate your Collegian Officers. They are trying their best.
  • Manage your time for studying and classes optimally.

Who's an Alpha Gam?

Many Potential New Members wonder how they will know what Sorority or Women's Fraternity is right for them. It can be a nervous time! It is important that Potential New Members ask questions about the ideals and values each organization represents. Across the United States and Canada, Alpha Gamma Delta collegians aim for their highest potential and are involved in such activities as:

Scholarship

Alpha Gamma Delta has a commitment to academic excellence for its members and chapters.

Leadership

Alpha Gamma Delta encourages involvement in chapter and campus activities, knowing that this experience will be a building block to successful lives after the college experience.

Social

Alpha Gam's social and standards programs provide the opportunities to practice social skills, proper etiquette and maintain high standards.

Philanthropy

Helping organizations and people in need is an integral part of Alpha Gamma Delta.

Sister-Mother

She is the special guide, guardian and friend who helps a new member develop an understanding of the Fraternity and the Greek system.

Double Vision

Alpha Gamma Delta supports a co-educational program focusing on social issues affecting collegians.

From Classroom to Boardroom

Alpha Gam sponsors a personal development program that extends from the classroom to the boardroom.

It's Okay to Care

This is the Fraternity's wellness program with special focuses on eating disorders and substance abuse.

Canadian Recruitment

Canadian Greeks and potential new members in Canada now have a Recruitment site specificially geared toward the Canadian campuses. Canadians Go Greek!'s Rush '99 - Join Greek Life in Canada! site includes recruitment information for every Canadian campus with a greek system and even includes a note to parents about Greek life.
Recruitment Awards!
Alpha Gamma Delta honors her best Recruiting Collegian chapters at Convention. At last Convention, Gamma Delta - Auburn University was the proud recipient of the Recruitment Award. Congratulations Gamma Delta! And congratulations to all chapters who successfully extend the special hand of Alpha Gam friendship and Sisterhood with new members!

Recruiting Legacies

A legacy is a sister, daughter or granddaughter (including step relationships such as step-sister, step-daughter and step granddaughter) of an Alpha Gamma Delta member in good standing.

Members who have a legacy attending a college or university with an active Alpha Gamma Delta chapter are encouraged to submit a Recruitment Information Form (RIF) and contact the Collegian Vice President-Recruitment (VP-R) of that chapter. New this year is also a Legacy Introduction Form (LIF) that should be submitted in addition to the RIF.

Both the RIF and the LIF, as well as contact information for each active chapter, were included in the Spring 1999 issue of the Alpha Gamma Delta Quarterly. If you did not receive the Spring 1999 Quarterly and you need a copy of the RIF and/or LIF, you can obtain it from your local alumnae chapter or club. You can also contact IHQ at info@alphagammadelta.org.

AGD Website News

Does your chapter have a website that is not yet in the webring? If so, please encourge your chapter's website maintainer to visit the WebRing page to add the site.

If your Collegiate Chapter, Alumnae Chapter/Club or Junior Circle is interested in starting a website, please be sure to visit our WebDesign pages for information about how to get started.
